Self Catering for Your Event!

Any event with less than 50 guests is the perfect chance for self catering!

When you do the way of do-it-yourself, there are several big advantages. For starters, the food will be exactly what you had in mind, because you'll be making it yourself. There are a few things you should consider when catering your own event.

You will want to plan out the menu at least a week in advance, so you can test all of the recipes and see how long you should plan on their preparation will take. When planning this menu, think of your guests and the event. Are the dishes you have in mind appropriate for the event? For example, BBQ ribs would not be suitable for a black-tie event, but would be perfect for a company picnic. Also, while exotic foods are interesting and exciting, there needs to be some food that you know most guests will enjoy. Will there be children at the event? If so, remember that children are picky eaters at time, so have something thing basic for them to eat.

As for drinks, you can go as simple or extravagant as you want when self catering! Do plan on serving ice water and make sure you have a non-alcoholic option if you are going to serve alcohol. If you plan on having a bar at your event, it can be a nice touch to hire a bartender for the evening! That will also moderate the alcohol intake of your guests, if that is something you are concerned about.

You will also want to make a schedule out for the day of the event, so you can make sure you have enough time to prepare everything before the event starts. Don't be afraid to enlist the help of several reliable friends or family members, as self catering an event can be a lot of work if you are by yourself! Also consider that catering for a large event, such as a 100 guest wedding or party might be best left to the professional!
